What Are Custom Plaster-Casted Orthotics?

Custom Plaster-Casted Orthotics are personalized shoe inserts made from a plaster cast of your foot. These Orthotics are designed to address specific foot conditions, provide better foot alignment, and improve comfort during walking or other activities. These Orthotics differ from over-the-counter inserts by being specifically tailored to your foot, improving function and reducing discomfort for a range of issues.

Custom Orthotics are one of the most popular services we offer here at FootFixers! We’ve been making them since the last century, so we like to think we know what we’re doing. Curious to learn more? Give us a call, drop an email, or just come on in!

We Offer Permanent Nail Resolution Surgery!

Permanent Nail Resolution Surgery is a medical procedure designed to treat chronic or recurring nail issues, most commonly ingrown toenails. The goal of the surgery is to prevent the problematic portion of the nail from growing back, offering a permanent solution to nail deformities, infections, or ingrown nails that cause pain and discomfort.

We’ve been offering permanent nail resolutions since 1999, right here in Stouffville. Thousands of Stouffvillians are enjoying greater mobility and comfort thanks to these procedures. Want to be one of them? Get in touch and let’s talk about it!

Learn About The Benefits of Tenotomy Claw Toe Correction

Claw toe occurs when the tendons in the toe become overly tight, causing the toe to bend downwards at the middle and end joints. It can result in discomfort, difficulty walking, corns, or calluses due to friction with shoes. A Tenotomy is often performed as a minimally-invasive surgical procedure, requiring only local anesthesia, and is particularly effective for correcting flexible claw toes.

We’ve been performing Tenotomies at FootFixers for a quarter-century, and we are experts at every step of the procedure. Your comfort and health are our top priorities! Feel free to get in touch with questions.

A Chiropodist is a healthcare professional who specializes in the assessment, management, and prevention of diseases and disorders of the foot. They provide a wide range of foot care services, from routine check-ups to surgical procedures.

Chiropodists and Podiatrists provide similar foot care services. In many regions, the titles are interchangeable, but the terminology varies by location. Both are trained to treat foot-related conditions and help you maintain healthy feet.

Many insurance plans cover chiropody services, especially for medically necessary treatments, but coverage can vary, so it’s best to check with your provider.

No, you don’t have to wait until there’s a problem. Regular visits to a Chiropodist can help prevent issues and keep your feet healthy, just like routine dental check-ups help maintain oral health. No, regular foot care can prevent problems and ensure your feet stay healthy; it’s a good idea to visit even if you’re not experiencing any issues.

Foot care is for everyone—men, women, and children alike can benefit from regular visits to a chiropodist.

The frequency of visits depends on your individual needs, but many people benefit from routine check-ups every few months.

During your first visit, the chiropodist will conduct a thorough assessment of your feet and discuss any concerns or symptoms you may have.

Yes, chiropodists can diagnose and treat various causes of foot pain, from minor discomfort to chronic conditions.

Chiropodists treat a wide range of foot conditions, including bunions, corns, calluses, ingrown toenails, plantar fasciitis, and diabetic foot complications.

In most cases, you do not need a referral to see a chiropodist, although some insurance plans may require one for coverage.

Please bring a list of any medications you are currently taking, and any previous medical records related to foot care. Please bring any Orthotics or Footwear that you have questions about. Wearing comfortable clothing that allows easy access to your feet is also helpful.

The human foot is made up of 26 bones, 33 joints, and over 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments. It’s a complex structure that supports your entire body, so taking care of it is crucial.

Your first visit typically includes a comprehensive foot examination, a discussion of any concerns you have, and recommendations for treatment or care. If you have specific issues, the Chiropodist may perform additional tests or procedures to address them.

There is no single, curative treatment for neuropathy of the feet. For the most common neuropathies affecting the feet, typical treatments include treating any contributing condition.

For example, Diabetic Neuropathy: good control of blood sugar can reduce the chance it will worsen (though tight blood sugar control will not necessarily improve symptoms once neuropathy is present).

Inflammatory or Autoimmune Neuropathy: treatment targeting the immune system and anti-inflammatory medications can improve symptoms or even eliminate them in people with conditions such as Guillain-Barré syndrome or Neuropathy due to Vasculitis (blood vessel inflammation).

Vitamin deficiency: treatment with supplemental vitamin B12 deficiency can halt progression or even reverse symptoms of related neuropathy.

Thyroid deficiency: treatment with supplemental thyroid hormone usually eliminates related neuropathy symptoms.

Treatments to reduce pain or other symptoms, such as >  gabapentin or pregabalin o amitriptyline or other tricyclic antidepressants; duloxetine.  many others (including carbamazepine, tramadol and baclofen)

Treatments to reduce the impact or complications of Neuropathy, including > Physical therapy; Bracing; splints;  assistive devices: Topicals such as Neuragen; shoe inserts;  Proper Foot care by a Chiropodist / Podiatrist

For most people with neuropathy involving the feet, a combination of two or more of these approaches is most helpful.
